Who is KES Energy?
Kukhanya Energy Services (KES Energy) is a South African renewable-energy company that has been bringing affordable, reliable solar power to homes and small businesses since 2001. We specialise in pay-as-you-go solar home systems, PayGo TV, and small commercial installations.

How do I sign up for a system?
The fastest way is to find your nearest sales agent on the Find an Agent page. They will visit you, assess your needs, and help you choose the right system and plan. You can also call Customer Care on 0800 110 858 or message us on WhatsApp.
Is there a credit check or paperwork?
No. We don't run a credit check, we don't look at your bank account, and we don't need a payslip. All we need is your South African ID.
Payments & PayGo
How does pay-as-you-go work?
You pay a small deposit and then a fixed monthly amount that unlocks the system for the next month. There are no hidden fees and no penalty interest - if you skip a payment, the system simply pauses until your next top-up.
What happens if I miss a payment?
Your system temporarily locks until your next payment is received. The moment you pay, it reactivates automatically - no penalties, no extra fees, and you don't lose what you've already paid.
Do I own the system after paying it off?
Yes. Once you have completed all the monthly payments on your selected plan, the panels, battery, lights, and accessories are yours to keep - no balloon payment, no further fees.
How do I make a payment?
You can pay via mobile money, EFT, supermarket retailer (Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Boxer, Spar), or directly through your sales agent. Every payment unlocks a token that keeps your system running.
Can I pay off my system early?
Yes. You can settle your balance at any time and take full ownership earlier than your plan term. Speak to your agent for a settlement quote.
Installation & setup
How long does installation take?
Most home systems are installed in a few hours by our trained technicians. Larger commercial installations are scheduled in advance and typically completed within a day.
Is installation included in the price?
Yes. Standard installation by an accredited KES technician is included in your monthly fee at no extra cost.
Do I need a specific type of roof?
Any solid roof works - tin, tile, or thatch. If your home does not have a suitable roof, we can fit a ground-mount pole in your yard.
What do I need to prepare before the technician arrives?
Make sure someone over 18 is at home, that your roof and walls are clear of obstructions, and that you have your ID and a copy of the agreement ready. Your agent will confirm everything before the visit.
System & performance
What can the system power?
Our home systems power LED lights, phone charging, radios, fans, and TVs. Larger systems like the Home X1000 Pro and Powerplay Pro can run fridges, satellite decoders, and small appliances. Compare systems on our Solar Solutions page.
How long will the system last?
Solar panels are covered by a 20-year manufacturer warranty. Lithium batteries are covered for 5 years and typically run 8-10 years with normal use.
What warranty do I get?
Every system carries the manufacturer's warranty, and your monthly fee includes ongoing maintenance and technical support for the full duration of your payment plan.
Will it work on cloudy or rainy days?
Yes. The battery stores enough energy to keep your essentials running for at least one full day with little or no sun. Most customers go several overcast days without noticing a difference.
Can I upgrade later?
Absolutely. If your energy needs grow, your local agent can help you upgrade to a larger system or add appliances to your existing one.
Service & support
What if something breaks?
Call your agent first - around 80% of issues are resolved on a single visit. If a part needs replacement under warranty, we replace it free of charge.

Can I move my system to a new home?
Yes. Contact your agent before moving so we can arrange safe deinstallation and reinstallation at the new address. A small relocation fee may apply depending on distance.
What if I want to cancel?
You can stop paying at any time. The system will lock and you keep what you have paid - we will not chase you. Once you have completed the plan, the system is permanently unlocked and yours to keep.
